Traditional Ayurvedic treatments for the lower or upper back and chronic neck issues, where warm herbal oil is retained on a certain back area via a dough ring.
In Sanskrit, “kati” means lower back, and “griva” means neck and upper back. Herbal oil heats the lumbar or upper back area; at the same time, medicated oil is being absorbed through the skin, giving a long-term therapeutic effect. Kati basti is used primarily for chronic lower back pain, muscle stiffness, and lumbar spondylosis. It improves the flexibility, nourishes the tissues and nerves in the spinal region, and promotes better posture.
Griva basti is effective for chronic neck pain, frozen shoulder, neck stiffness, and helps with cervical spondylosis. It improves blood circulation, neck flexibility, headaches related to shoulder tension, and brings relaxation to the whole body.
